The Women’s Foundation of Arkansas and Girls of Promise ® are partnering with the Arkansas Governor’s Office, Acxiom, and AT&T to host a FREE Coding Summit for Arkansas 6th-12th grade girls on December 9, 2016.

This coding summit is open to any 6th-12th grade girl from around the state. The Girls of Promise program is designed to educate young women about career opportunities in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The Coding Summit serves as an enhancement to our program portfolio providing these girls with a unique learning development opportunity. Our December Summit will feature a hands-on interacting coding session where girls will learn some basics of how to code as well as a special announcement from AT&T. It will be hosted at Acxiom Corporation in Little Rock and led by volunteers.  Our aim is to not only introduce but to also nurture girl’s interests in career and educational pursuits.

To register, click here. Both girls and chaperones must register. We have only 150 spots for both girls and chaperones, so please consider one chaperone per multiple girls.

The deadline to register is December 5, 2016 or until spots are filled. Register to reserve your spot today!

Programs such as these are important to the Women’s Foundation because women in STEM careers earn 33% more than women in other fields. Yet, in Arkansas, men outnumber women in STEM fields:

  • 6:1 in Engineering,
  • 5:1 in Computer Science, and
  • 4:1 in Physics.

We know that women who receive better educations are employed in higher paying jobs, and therefore can make a better living for themselves and their families. Education for women & girls in Arkansas is critical for our state to continue to grow and thrive.

When women succeed, Arkansas succeeds.
