Will I receive any training?

There are two different volunteer orientations scheduled, one for Team Leaders – March 3rd and one for all other volunteers – February 25th.  They will be held at 5:30pm in the office of the Women’s’ Foundation of Arkansas, 200 River Market Avenue, Suite 100, Little Rock. Those attending also may be asked to assist with stuffing bags that will be distributed to the girls.  Volunteers who live out of town will be provided conference call information.

Do I have to attend the training/orientation?

The trainings are designed to prepare you for your assigned role so that you can provide effective and efficient volunteer support for this important experience in the life of 150 Arkansas eighth-grade girls. Volunteers who miss the trainings will need to contact one of the Volunteer Coordinators, Mojgan Watson or Maria Jones, to make arrangements to receive pre-event orientation.   Volunteers who live out of town will be provided conference call information.

Will there be a conference call number provided for volunteers who live out of town and cannot attend the training/orientation?

How much walking is required for volunteers? Are there any roles I can volunteer for so I could do while I sit down?

Volunteers need to be able to walk distances and stand during their shift. Thursday Check In volunteers will have the least amount of walking, the fewest mobility obstacles, and will sit at the registration table for their shift. Team Leaders and Friday volunteers will get lots of exercise, including standing, walking throughout the River Market, and dealing with whatever weather conditions are in place that day.

Is transportation provided?

Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation. Team leaders spending the night at the 4H Center will ride on the buses with the girls Friday morning, which leave the 4H Center at 8:30. Arrangements will be made to return the Team Leaders to their cars at the 4H Center.

Where do I park my car?

There is ample parking at the 4H Center on Thursday.  On Friday, volunteers will have to find parking in the River Market area.  Suggested sites will be provided to the registered volunteers. Be aware that much of the parking in the River Market area is not free.

Note: Team Leaders will begin at the 4H Center and ride with the girls on buses to the River Market on Friday. Arrangements will be made to return the Team Leaders back to their vehicles at the end of the event Friday afternoon.

Who do I contact if I am late or cannot fulfill my shift?

We will need ample notice, but do understand that unforeseen circumstances may occur. As soon as you are aware that you cannot volunteer, please email the volunteer coordinators, Mojgan Watson or Maria Jones. You also need to go to your email from VolunteerSpot mail@volunteerspot.com and click on the link “View/Change my commitments” to remove yourself from the volunteer management system.

What do I wear?

Volunteers will be given T-shirts to wear at the event.  Wear comfortable shoes and business casual slacks. If you are volunteering on Friday, be sure to dress appropriately for being outside in the weather for extended walks.
