Statement on 2020 Girls of Promise Cancellation

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 13, 2020) – In light of recent events surrounding the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), including school closings in Saline, Jefferson, Pulaski and Grant counties, and after reviewing the latest recommendations from the CDC and the Arkansas Department of Health, Women’s Foundation of Arkansas made the decision to cancel our 2020 Girls of Promise conference.

The conference was planned to bring 200 eighth grade girls and their teachers from across the state to Little Rock on April 2nd and 3rd to participate in educational activities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

Organizations across the state, including ourselves, are faced with hard decisions during this time. We appreciate everyone who is taking the necessary steps to mitigate community transmission of COVID-19 and will always put the safety of our students, teachers, volunteers, and sponsors above all else.

Details about a possible reschedule date will be released in the following weeks as we discuss options with our venues, vendors and speakers. These updates will be directly communicated to registered teachers and students, as well as posted on the Girls of Promise Facebook page and www.girlsofpromise.org as they become available.

If you were registered to attend and have not received an email informing you of the cancellation directly by March 16th, please email rbuttry@womensfoundationarkansas.org.
